I was privileged to see Walter Cronkite and Brian Williams at the Society of Professional Journalists national conference in New York City in 2004. The two spoke about the state of journalism at the time as well the then-unfolding "memo-gate" controversy surrounding the Iraq war and CBS News. The conference took place on the anniversary of 9/11, and Brian Williams took time to talk about that day and how deeply it affected him. Cronkite wasn't always completely coherent during the conversation, and he was having hearing aid trouble. Nevertheless, it was amazing to hear him speak in person.
