(Rodrigues - Stranded Hiker)
We were only anticipating being out there...Probably no longer than three or four hours...we made it to the summit...when we got there...that's when the weather really turned on us...
(D. Holmes - Mount Washington State Park)
It's not unusal to have temperatures well below zero...with winds above a hundred miles per hour...
(Rodrigues)
All those signs were covered with ice...It's starting to get dark...Visibility's poor...We thought about backtracking but...We decided that we were probably going to have to spend the night...
(Spragg - New Hampshire Fish and Game)
i got the call around 4:00 to head up the lowes path for a couple of hikers that got stranded in a white-out on Mount Adams...
(D. Homles)
He, and the New Hampshire fish and game officers are heading up Mount Adams above treeline to see if they can come on to these hikers that are holding down who we think are in a snowcave at the moment...
(Rodrigues)
we found some rocks...we didn't want to go too far away from the trail...so we dug out all the snow between the rocks...laid down the sleeping pad...and we just hunkered down...I knew it was very very cold...I was shivering a little bit...and you hear about people dying of hypothermia on the mountain all the time...
(Rescue Coordinator via Walkie-Talkie)
Regardless of where they are...The plan if we're going to go with it tonight...would be to procede on up...beat around Lowe's Path...Spur trail...and Thunderstorm Junction...You know...Might be a shot at it... We'll see what happens...
(Spragg)
Sochard picked out a set of tracks going down toward King Ravine...and it was his and our contention that no one would go down there intentionally...at night in that weather...Figured that might be them...Followed the tracks for perhaps a quarter-mile...
(Rodrigues)
Janice thought she heard something...She said maybe she heard their voices or their ice picks...
(Spragg)
They had left a signal...of a ski pole stuck in a cairn...Found that ski pole then made voice contact with them...
(Rodrigues)
Then i said 'yahoooo'...and we were pretty excited...
(Spragg)
You see a lot in people when you find them in the woods...These people did everything right...They stayed where and didn't get any farther from where they could be found...
(Rodrigues)
I really wanted to give a lot of praise for those six guys that were part of those rescue teams...To actually go ahead and find us...in the middle of the night...in this raging storm...We had god on our side.
