This glossary contains information on more than 2000 terms, phrases and abbreviations used in meteorology. Many of these terms and abbreviations are issued from (and used by) National Weather Service forecasters to communicate between each other and have been in use for many years before many NWS products were directly available to the public. Many of these terms are not actual words, but rather an explanation of commonly used short-hand by the National Weather Service in their forecast discussions. However, there are plenty of weather words in here too, complete with an explanation. Simply search from the letters below to see the current items.
