Police make arrest for shooting in Willimantic

The Willimantic Police Department made an arrest in connection with a shooting that happened on Main St. on Tuesday Aug. 26. 

On Tuesday, police responded to a shooting on Main St. where several shots were fired and a 16-year-old male was hit by a bullet in his arm. 

According to police, the teen was brought to Windham Hospital and then later transported to Children's Medical Center where he underwent surgery.

According to police, there were three other juvenile males with the victim that were not injured. A suspect was immediately developed during the investigation. 

On August 29, Willimantic Police Department took Jamie Padilla, 19, from Ash St. in Willimantic into custody for the shooting on Main Street. 

According to police, the incidents below are related and police are actively investigating them.

On Aug. 28, Willimantic police responded to shots fired at the Kingswood Apartments on Ash Street. Officers went to the area, but nothing was found. 

Information was received that a certain vehicle was involved and about 10 minutes later, Connecticut State Police got a call for shots fired on Windham Center Rd. in Windham. 

Willimantic police officers waited at the Kingswood Complex to see if the specific vehicle would come back to the complex. According to police, about 10 minutes later, the vehicle that was described to police arrived back at the complex. 

Police stopped the vehicle and three people were detained. According to police, nothing was found inside the car and the three people were later released without charges. 

On Aug. 28, at about 10:40 p.m., Willimantic police responded to a shots fired call in the area of 200 Church Street. Witnesses told police that a gray BMW was possibly involved. 

Officers that responded to the scene saw a gray BMW leaving the area. Police stopped the vehicle and two juveniles inside. According to police, a BB gun was located in the vehicle and the two juveniles were taken into custody. 

According to police, one of the juveniles that was taken into custody was one of the three that were with the victim during the Aug. 26 shooting.

During the investigation on Church St., officers found a heavily damaged vehicle that appeared to be targeted by the two juveniles. 

On Aug. 28 at about 11:40 p.m., Willimantic officers responded to shots fired in the area of 100 Ivan Hill St. in Willimantic. Responding officers learned that someone had fired shots into a single family house. 

On Aug. 29 at about 2:30 a.m., officers responded to Windham Hospital Emergency Room for a 17-year-old victim who had a no life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg. He told officers that someone shot him on Prospect St. in Willimantic. 

The victim was transported to Children's Medical Center in Hartford. 

Willimantic police responded to a complaint of bullet holes in a single family home at a residence on Manners Ave. on Aug. 29, according to police. 

Padilla was charged with first degree assault with a deadly weapon and first degree reckless endangerment. He is being held on a $150,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 9, 2014.
