MILWAUKEE, WI (WTMJ/CNN) - An American journalist beheaded by ISIS was memorialized in Wisconsin on Tuesday.

Marquette University in Milwaukee held a vigil in remembrance of James Foley.

Foley graduated from Marquette before pursuing his career in journalism, covering conflicts in Afghanistan, Libya and Syria.

Foley was kidnapped in Syria in late 2012.

A video of ISIS militants killing him surfaced last week.
