1 millionth Wake Co. resident gets Wake Tech scholarship

RALEIGH, N.C. -

The president of Wake Technical Community College announced the one millionth Wake County resident will be provided with a full scholarship to the school.

Anderson Grace Hughes was born Friday at WakeMed and was identified as the county's one millionth resident.

The Wake Tech Foundation will provide the scholarship that will cover two years at Wake Tech where current tuition is $1,152 per semester.

"While we can't see the future, we can rest assured that education will remain a critical factor in future success," said Wake Tech President Stephen Scott. "We want Anderson to be able to take full advantage of what we offer, whether she chooses to earn a two-year degree and enter the workforce or transfer to a university for more education."

Scott also said an additional scholarship would be awarded to Baby Sridhar. The child of Shobha Sridhar and her husband Sridhar Narasimhan was born at Rex Hospital shortly before the county's population ticker it one million. Shobha Sridhar and Sridhar Narasimhan have not named their child yet.

"The Wake Tech Foundation is excited to offer this scholarship," said Mort Congleton, Executive Vice President for College Development at Wake Tech. "This is Wake Tech's way of investing in the future and celebrating all the potential this newest Wake County citizen represents - for herself and her family, and for the community."
