Mother searches for answers four years after son's murder

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

LaShelle Bigsby always knew she'd leave East Nashville. Her son told her it would happen.

"He always told me he was going to go to college, and he was going to be my football star, and he was going to move me away from over here," Bigsby said.

Bigsby did move away, but for reasons she never imagined. The mother left her neighborhood to escape the memories.

"I had something taken away from me I'll never get back. It's hurtful. I'm angry," Bigsby said.

Ronquez Bigsby died on Aug. 11, 2010. Nearly four years later, it seems no one knows who killed the 14-year-old boy or why.

Investigators said Ronquez was shot during an argument on South 8th Street outside the James A. Cayce Homes. The gunfire erupted just before 2 a.m. The boy managed to run away, but he collapsed in the street. No one has been charged in his murder.

"The person that killed my son could be standing in my face and I don't know who it is," Bigsby said.

Bigsby said she's asking eyewitnesses to come forward and help police - in spite of retaliation and fear.

"It makes me very angry, I mean, because he supposedly had so many loved ones and people that was friends of his, and I feel like there's people out there that knows what happened, and they won't talk," she said.

Back in 2010, police said the shooing didn't appear random. Bigsby said her son had attended a party the night before school started. Detectives assigned to the case could not be reached Saturday evening.
