RALEIGH, N.C. -

Raleigh fire crews are investigating after a fire erupted at an apartment complex on Park Glen Drive in Raleigh early Wednesday morning.

The fire started around 2 a.m. at 1341 Park Glen Dr. in an apartment on the third floor of one of the buildings.

Twelve units were affected, but no one was hurt."I just remember hearing a loud sound, the banging on my doors and windows, people screaming, telling me to get out of the building, the building is on fire." said resident Dominique Burnette.

Burnette, her husband and two children were able to get out safely.

"I just saw open flames just shooting off the top of the roof," Burnette said. "That's my worst fear in an apartment," she added.

The Red Cross is assisting the families affected by Wednesday's fire.

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries while battling the fire, the fire chief said.

Investigators determined the cause of the fire as improperly discarded smoking material.
