SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Springfield police arrested a homeless father and son who allegedly stole metal from a local work site.

Officials tell CBS 3, they arrested Steve Loman, 54, and his son Stephen, 22, around 4 a.m. Wednesday morning.

A police sergeant was driving near Logan Street when he ended up behind a pickup truck with so much metal in the back it could hardly drive down the street.

In the truck bed were thousands of dollars worth of cast iron sewer pipe, pipe sections and sewer grates.

The Lomans had previously been suspected of other metal thefts.
