Narcotics detectives conducted a drug raid Wednesday afternoon following a three-week investigation into heroin sales being sold at the "1 Stop Plaza" on Central Street.
Police received complaints about drug sales in the plaza and their investigation led them to the home at 43 Chester St., which they raided, Springfield police Sgt. John Delaney said.
Before the raid, detectives conducting surveillance witnessed two drug deals at the Chester Street residence. Police charged both Pablo Santiago, 56, of 34 Scott St. in Springfield, and Osvaldo Santos, 37, of 59 Middlesex St. in Springfield, with possession of heroin, Delaney said.
When police began their raid people inside the dwelling began to scream and yell that the cops had arrived, but detectives were able to secure the area and make arrests.
Police charged Ricardo Cruz, 34, and Corrine Salkovitz, 31, both of 43 Chester St., with distribution of heroin and possession of heroin with intent to distribute, according to an arrest report.
Detectives confiscated a large amount of packaged heroin and drug paraphernalia, Delaney said.
"The narcotics detectives will continued to monitor illegal drug sales at the 1 Stop Plaza to end the dealing in that area for good," Delaney said.
The suspect will be arraigned in Springfield District Court Thursday.
