MEMPHIS, TN -
(WMC) - An off-duty Memphis Police Officer was robbed at gunpoint while out with friends.

It happened just after midnight Sunday at Wagner and Huling near the Spaghetti Warehouse. Off-duty Memphis police Major Mary Sampietro was walking with a friend when a suspect jumped out of the shadows and ambushed the two women.

The suspect put a gun in their face and demanded whatever they had.

Sampietro handed over her police badge, and debit and credit cards in her purse. The suspect took the other woman's purse with her credit cards and some cash.

Investigators say the thief took off running south on Wagner. Officers heading to the scene saw a man, who they think is the robber, on Front and Butler who ran into a wooded area.

Memphis police recommend if someone pulls gun on you give them what they ask for and when they are gone, call police. Also, be sure to pay attention and get a good description.

Not long after the robbery, 18-year-old Robrecus McGowan was arrested.

Memphis police recovered the suspects gun and two stolen purses, but Major Sampietro's police badge is still out there somewhere.
