JENNINGS COUNTY, IN (WAVE) - A southern Indiana man has been sentenced to 70 years in prison for killing his ex-wife and wounding her daughter.
James Sowder, 64, of Seymour was convicted in May of voluntary manslaughter, burglary and other charges in connection with the 2012 shooting that killed 64-year-old Candice Sowder and seriously injured 42-year-old Regina Johnson at their home near North Vernon.
According to The Republic newspaper of Columbus, IN, a judge ordered that Sowder serve consecutive 35-year sentences for the manslaughter and burglary convictions. He originally was charged with murder and attempted murder, but a Jennings County jury convicted him of the lesser charges.
Jennings County Prosecutor Alan Marshall said Sowder had several previous misdemeanor convictions, including two counts of battery against his ex-wife.
