HANOVER, VA (WWBT) -

The Atlee Station Family YMCA will close its doors in October, the YMCA of Greater Richmond announced Monday.

Members and staff will be transitions to other branch locations once the facility closes on October 3.

"This was not an easy decision by the Y's staff and Board of Directors, but financially this is what is best for our organization," said Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President Karen Keegan. "As a nonprofit, the Y must be good stewards of our resources, which ultimately impacts our ability to serve the community and sustain the quality of program delivery and mission fulfillment."

The Atlee Station branch has been open for less than three years. The 10,295 square foot facility opened in November 2011 in the Rutland Business Park. The closure leaves the Greater Richmond YMCA with 17 locations. The Patrick Henry YMCA in Ashland is now the lone branch in Hanover.
