HOLYOKE, Mass. (AP) - A 40-year-old Holyoke has pleaded not guilty to fatally stabbing another man after an argument.
Jorge Rodriguez-Nieves was ordered held without bail at his arraignment on a murder charge Monday in Holyoke District Court.
Police say 33-year-old Angel David Morales was stabbed in the neck after an argument with the suspect outside a convenience store just before noon Sunday. He was taken to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield where he was pronounced dead.
Police say the slaying was not gang-related and had nothing to do with the Hispanic Family Festival Parade, which was taking place a few blocks away.
Friends remembered the victim as a dedicated family man.
The killing was the first homicide in Holyoke this year.
