Dog activists in Longmeadow chained up to raise awareness

LONGMEADOW, MA (WSHM) -

Dog activists from the local chapter of Dogs Deserve Better were out in Bliss Park on Saturday speaking out against man's best friend being chained outside.

The volunteers were chained up to trees and cages, demonstrating what life is like for dogs that are also chained.

Organizers told CBS 3 that it is just not natural for the dogs to be subjected to that kind of treatment.

"They don't realize that dogs are pack animals and family members," said Robin Budin. "It's OK to let your dog out to do his business, to play ball with, but a dog does not live outside. A dog is a family member. He's somebody that wants to be with you."

Dogs Deserve Better is a non-profit that is headquartered in Smithfield, VA.

They took over Michael Vick's former Bad Newz Kennel and turned it into the Good Newz Rehab Center for chained and penned dogs.
