Man dives into lake to try to save girl after jet ski accident

SULLIVAN COUNTY, TN (WJHL) - The investigation continues into a fatal jet ski crash that killed a fourteen year old girl on Boone Lake yesterday. Officials with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency say one jet ski hit the other from behind.  And while investigators work to determine the cause, News Channel 11 spoke with an eye witness who dialed 911 and then jumped into action.

"We just came down to have a nice day with a family get together at the lake," said Tim Glover, who witnessed the accident.

Two jet skis collide in the middle of Boone Lake.

Glover says the a mother and daughter were driving the front jet ski and the father was in the rear.

"As soon as he hit them, the first jet ski went into the water, he hit them and he launched over top of them," said Glover.

With a disaster unfolding in front of his eyes, Glover reacted.

"The first instinct I had was go help. I jumped up and yelled to my wife, 'did you see that?' the next thing I knew I through my hat off and i just told her to call 911 and i was off into the water," said Glover.

Disregarding his own safety, Glover swam a football field's length towards the accident.

"I just wanted to get out there. I wasn't thinking about what I was going to do when I got out there. I was just trying to get out there to them," said Glover.

When he reached them, he says two pontoon boats had already arrived to help. He boarded the one with the 14 year old girl on board and helped with CPR.

Eventually, the group spotted emergency personnel arriving on the shore. But by then -- it was too late. The 14 year old girl had already passed away.

"That's her baby girl you know? (Her Mom) was just hollering...not my daughter please don't take my daughter lord. Please don't. And praying," said Glover "I hate it for the family. I really do. I wish there is more we could have done for her."
