14-year-old girl dead following jet ski crash on Boone Lake

Posted: Updated:

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has released the names of two of the people involved in Friday's deadly jet ski crash on Boone Lake.

TWRA investigators said Steve Stout from Bristol, Va. was riding a jet ski while his teenage daughter rode the other with an adult female, Amanda Hulse, also from Bristol.

Hulse and Stout received medical attention after the crash.

A perfect summer day on Boone Lake turned into tragedy for a Bristol, Va. family when three people on two jet skis collided.

Investigators think two people on one jet ski rear ended another, killing the 14 year old girl who was driving.

"She was struck, killed, and a third party witness on a pontoon boat actually came over to assist. They put her in the boat and CPR was performed until paramedics arrived," said Matt Cameron, Public Information Officer for the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.

Cameron said not only did a boater stop to help the family, but another witness did as well.

"Apparently there was someone on shore that saw what happened and swam out there to help as well. So a lot of good response from the local folks here. They did all they could, but unfortunately it wasn't enough," Cameron said.

As part of the investigation, TWRA officials have taken the jet skis involved in the crash. "Our officers will do a thorough investigation of both craft, and they will take evidence from them and try to determine exactly what happened."

But Cameron said it's pretty clear there was no foul play involved.

"Personal watercraft are very maneuverable, very fast, and you've got to know what you're riding when you're riding one...They operate a little bit different from a boat, from a four-wheeler, things that we're used to riding," he added.

Cameron said this is the tenth death on Tennessee waters so far this year.

The three people on the water crafts were reportedly all in the same family.

The crash remains under investigation.
