RALEIGH, N.C. -
Hundreds of kids attending a summer camp on the coast are spending the night in Wake County instead.
Around 1,600 kids and teenagers attending the YMCA's Camp Seagull and Camp Seafarer were evacuated from their Pamlico County camp sites and bussed to an undisclosed high school in Wake County on Thursday. The YMCA tells WNCN parents were made well aware of the situation.
"We have been in contact with parents for the past few days," Triangle YMCA spokeswoman Jennifer Nelson said. "As soon as we knew about this hurricane, we started tracking it and then communicating with them several times a day."
The kids are only expected to stay the night, but a final call will not be made until Friday.
