Raleigh's Mecca Restaurant becomes historic landmark

Posted: Updated:

The Mecca Restaurant, a longtime favorite in downtown Raleigh, has been named a Raleigh Historic Landmark, the Raleigh City Council decided Tuesday.

“We are blessed to be part of such a wonderful city, and we look forward to calling Raleigh home for the NEXT 84 years,” the restaurant said on its website.

The downtown restaurant has long been a favorite of politicians and lawyers and others who work downtown.

Also approved for the Historic Landmark designation was St. Matthews School on Louisburg Road.

The city also referred one new application for Historic Landmark designation, for the Atwater-Perry House at 904 E. Hargett Street, to the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources, Office of Archives and History for its analysis and recommendations.
