Memorial Bridge in Springfield to close for fireworks

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

The Memorial Bridge will be closed for 24 hours beginning Friday at 11 p.m. to allow for professionals to set up the Star Spangled Springfield fireworks display being held on Saturday.

The 20-minute firework show will take place on the Memorial Bridge at 9:30 p.m. Springfield police will begin to close surrounding roads near the bridge at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. State police will close exit 7 on Interstate 91 southbound.

For public safety, the Springfield Police Department will enforce no bicycles, skateboards, rollerblades, pets or alcohol, according to a news release from the Spirit of Springfield.

The Memorial Bridge will reopen before midnight on Saturday.
