Authorities identify Camp Lejeune marine who died during fitness test

CAMP LEJEUNE, NC (WECT) -

Authorities have identified a Camp Lejeune Marine who died during the run portion of a semi-annual physical fitness test.

According to a press release, U.S. Marine Lieutenant Colonel Andrew P. Reed, who was due to assume command of Logistics Operations School at Camp Johnson Monday, passed away suddenly on Friday.

The cause of death is still under investigation.

Lt. Col. Reed, 39, received his commission in 1996 after graduating with a Bachelor of Special Studies degree in Secondary Education and Physical Education from Cornell College, Mt. Vernon, IA. 

Lt. Col. Reed's military decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal with four gold stars in lieu of subsequent awards, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
