12-year-old injured in crossfire of Springfield shootout

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Police are investigating a shootout that took place late Friday night.

The incident happened near the intersection of Hancock and Lebanon Streets, in the city's Old Hill neighborhood around 11:50 p.m.

CBS 3 media partner Mass Live and The Republican reported that a church van drove through the middle of a shootout between two gunmen.

Police said a 12-year-old child was a passenger in that van and suffered minor cuts from flying glass.

Police believe the shooter was aiming at another car at the time.

The incident remains under investigation.
