Franklin County receives flooding Wednesday night

GREENFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

More than 4 inches of rain fell on some towns in Franklin county late Wednesday night. Emergency crews spent the night responding to washed-out roads, flooded basements and downed trees.

Lt. William Gordon of the Greenfield Police Department told CBS3 Springfield they responded to 22 flood-related incidents overnight.

"Several apartments on Riverside Drive received water inside their apartments right through the front door," said Lt. Gordon.

On Thursday, DPW crews continued working to repair Scout Road, just north of Route 2, which had an embankment wash out. Small underpasses, like the one on Arch street, also became the scene of vehicles disabled in flood waters. Fortunately, the incidents were not life-threatening.

"That person could've been hurt in that water, luckily they weren't," said Gordon. "You have to be real careful when you're going through water because you don't know how deep it's going to get. We tell all people when you come across flooded areas, 'turn around, don't drown.'"
