Tanner Chapdelaine laid a sentimental gift on the guard rail near a skateboard left by family members. Today, he says goodbye to 19-year-old Nathan Raffol, his best friend since 8th grade.
"He was always one of the funniest kids in school," said Chapdelaine.
Many other friends and family members came to mourn the loss of Raffol, along with the other victim of the crash, 23-year-old Nolan Toski. Both died last night from their injuries.
24-year-old Adam Surrette of Springfield was also a passenger in the vehicle, he's in critical condition at Baystate Medical Center.
Wilbraham Police Chief Roger Tucker said he was called to the scene around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday night. The vehicle struck a guard rail and pole near Bolles Road. All three men were thrown from the car.
"The vehicle was coming down the hill, from the top of the mountain, excessive speed," said Tucker.
He said it appears none of the drivers were wearing seat belts during the accident.
"The interior compartment of the vehicle was pretty intact. The windows were all broken out, the sunroof was all broken out. We're not sure where the occupants were ejected from but we think seat belts would have made a difference," said Tucker.
This particular area has claimed lives in the past.
