(WMC) - Vandals struck a historic downtown building on Wednesday. Shelby County Sheriff's Office is still looking for a suspect.
The hands, feet, and neck of the Wisdom statue at the old courthouse were spray painted by a vandal. It is still being determined how much it will cost to clean the statue.
"More of a lack of wisdom than wisdom," said Pastor Tim Swoope about the person who vandalized the statue.
"It's very bold to do it on government property. That takes a lot of nerve," added Kanesha Rollins. "I just want to know why. That's crazy."
The sheriff's office received the vandalism report around noon on Tuesday. So far, they do not know who did it, or why.
"I would just ask, 'Why? What was the point? Just, why?'" Rollins said.
"This is just another sign of today's society which we live in. What people don't cherish. Not only their property or the city property or any property," Swoope said.
At this point, there appears to be no surveillance footage of the crime. It happened in an area where there is little to no foot traffic.
