PALMER, MA (WSHM) -

A man in his 40s went into the Country Bank on Route 20 and handed a teller a note that indicated he had a gun and that he wanted money.

Schools were placed into lockdown for about 40 minutes after the bank was robbed at about 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, according to Palmer Police Chief Robert Frydryk.

The lockdown was done as a precaution and there were no issues inside of the schools. The lockdown was lifted about 1:50 p.m.

The suspect weighed about 200 pounds and was wearing dark glasses, a hat and a blue and white plaid dress shirt. He was also wearing blue shorts and white sneakers, Frydryk said.

The suspect fled on foot after the robbery. Police are still investigating the robbery. No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Palmer Police Department at 413-283-8792.
