A Springfield man is facing charges after he hit an Amherst man in the head several times, which caused him to fall and strike his head on a curb, according to Amherst Police Sgt. Ronald A. Young.
Police responded to Kellogg Avenue about 7:30 p.m. Sunday to find the 51-year-old victim lying unconscious in the road. He was taken to Baystate Medical Center with significant head injuries and remains in stable condition, Young said.
Through an investigation officers were able to identify 47-year-old Julian L. Munn, of 503 Worthington St., as a suspect. He was charged with assault and battery with serious bodily injury, according to Young.
A witness told police the victim and Munn were involved in an argument earlier in the day which led to the altercation. The witness saw Munn strike the man in the head several times before he fell unconscious, Young said.
Munn was held at the Hampshire County House of Correction in lieu of $1,000 bail. He is due in Eastern Hampshire District Court Monday morning.
The altercation remains under investigation by the Amherst Police Department.
