ATLANTA, GA (WFLA) -
An Atlanta-area man has an amazing story he'll remember for years. He survived a lightning strike that was so strong it blasted his boots off his feet.
Sean O'Connor told WGCL TV in Atlanta that the sun was out when he was getting ready to do some yard work on Saturday. He said he could not hear or see thunder or lightning.
Then, as he picked up a rake, he heard a crashing sound.
"A few moments later, I was picking myself up off the ground. I had the taste of blood in my mouth. I noticed my leg was burning a little bit," he told WGCL TV.
It turned out that he had been hit by lightning that blew his boots off.
"I looked across the driveway and could see my boot over there. They were no longer on my feet and one of them was smoking," he told WGCL TV.
His wife took him to the hospital where he was hooked up to a heart monitor, according to a WSB TV report. Doctors were concerned about his heartrate which had dropped to 40 beats per minute. O'Connor was released from the hospital on Sunday, according to WSB TV.
