DURHAM, N.C. -
Biking and beer came together Saturday in Durham for charity.
New Belgium Brewing brought the “Tour de Fat” back to Durham. It’s a one day even that encourages bicycling and raises money for charity.
The event included bike related games and a bike parade. Organizers even encouraged those in attendance to dress up.
“I didn’t expect this with Durham. It’s kind of a nice flavor of people, good atmosphere. I’m enjoying it a lot,” said Durham resident Eric Pollak.
Tour de Fat Creative Director Matthew Kowal said the event is going where cycling and good cuisine are popular.
“This is a place where people are enjoying great cuisine. They’re enjoying pushing the limit. So, we’ve got to go to places that are burgeoning with both cycling culture and culinarily and with flavor,” Kowal said.
Last year, Tour de Fat hosted more than 3,000 people and raised more than $20,000 for charity.
