GOODYEAR, AZ (CBS5) -

A husband in Goodyear told police he thought his wife was trying to kill him early Sunday morning when she shot at him after he told her he had accepted a job in Texas.

Dennis Montgomery said he and his wife, 48-year-old Eloise Kuykendall, were drinking with friends Saturday night before he told her about taking the new job, according to a police officer's probable cause report.

He said Kuykendall became angry and told him to "get out" of their house near 161st Avenue and Interstate 10, according to the report.

He said he went to leave in his SUV but had trouble with the battery and was trying to fix it when Kuykendall came outside and began shooting at him.

He told police he could see the muzzle flashes as he sprinted down the street away from the house before calling police about 12:45 a.m., according to the report.

Montgomery said Kuykendall threatened him with a gun about two years ago and that he "has no choice" but to press charges because he thought she intended to kill him, according to the report.

One of the officers said Kuykendall said she was glad she was a bad shot, or police would otherwise be investigating a homicide.

She told officers she thought someone was trying to slash the tires on her car and that she intended to shoot and kill whoever it was, according to the report.

Officers found shell casings outside the front door of the house, a bullet hole in Kuykendall's car and a 9 mm semiautomatic handgun on the roof on one of the vehicles.

Kuykendall was booked into jail on suspicion of premeditated first-degree attempted murder, disorderly conduct with a weapon and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
