Police arrested a man who broke into a car and was subsequently chased down by the owner's son.
Officers were called to the high-rise building at 10 Chestnut St. about 7:45 p.m. Thursday after the car owner's key began to vibrate, indicating the security system was going off, according to Springfield police Sgt. John Delaney.
The owner looked out his window and could see an unknown person going through his car. The victim's son ran down to the parking lot and chased the victim toward Maple Street, Delaney said.
The suspect threatened the victim's son at some point during the chase, he said.
Officers caught up with the suspect and arrested him. Police charged Luis D. Rivera, 31, of 1070 Dwight St. with breaking and entering into a motor vehicle, malicious damage over $250, and threatening to commit a crime, Delaney said.
