One Hadley elementary school student is being hailed a hero after police say he saved his grandmother's life.
First-grader Nevan Costigan dialed 911 when he noticed his grandmother was in distress.
Officials say he was able to calmly tell police where he was and what was happening, ultimately saving his grandmother's life.
Thursday the Hadley police and fire departments came out to recognize Nevan for his swift action.
"Most adults we deal with aren't that calm over the phone ... to do what he did is impressive," said Hadley Chief of Police Damien Hadley.
Nevan was given a certificate highlighting his achievement.
Officials say he's a prime example of what can happen when you educate your children about 911 safety.
