SAN TAN VALLEY, AZ (CBS5) -

A San Tan Valley woman is accused of driving drunk and running over and seriously injuring a road worker in a construction zone Tuesday afternoon, according to a Pinal County Sheriff's Office spokesman.

Kathleen Fleetwood, 65, was seen driving a Buick Enclave through the construction zone on West Hunt Highway at North Gary Road just before 1 p.m. Witnesses said she sideswiped a water truck, then hit the construction worker, throwing him into air before he landed under some construction equipment, the spokesman said.

A landscaper and the construction supervisor followed the Enclave and blocked it from entering a gated community, later determined to be where Fleetwood lives, the spokesman said.

Witnesses told deputies they saw Fleetwood get out of the Enclave and walk to a nearby bush, where she dropped a vodka bottle.

Workers said Fleetwood was going an estimated 50 mph in the 35-mph construction zone when she sideswiped the truck and hit the worker, the spokesman said.

The 41-year-old worker from San Tan Valley was flown to a Phoenix hospital with serious injuries, the spokesman said.

Fleetwood told deputies she had no memory of striking the truck or construction worker, the spokesman said.

Deputies arrested Fleetwood and booked her into the Pinal County Jail on two counts of aggravated assault, criminal damage, criminal littering, driving under the influence of an intoxicating beverage and driving under the influence of an intoxicating beverage with a blood-alcohol content of 0.08 percent or higher. Additional criminal charges are pending, the spokesman said.

A blood sample was taken and sent to the Arizona Department of Public Safety Crime lab to determine her blood-alcohol concentration.

She was released from jail on $10,000 bond.
