1 dead, two injured following 3 Springfield shootings

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

One man was killed and two other people were injured in three shootings that occurred in Springfield early Wednesday morning.

The fatal shooting was reported at 12:38 a.m. Wednesday on Kensington Avenue in the city's Forest Park neighborhood. The victim of the fatal shooting has been identified as 23-year-old Darryl Jenkins, of Kensington Avenue. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Springfield police officials.

The homicide occurred nearby Springfield's Kensington Avenue Elementary School.

Another shooting was reported at the corner of White and Pasadena streets. A 20-year-old girl was shot in the mouth and collapsed. She was taken to the hospital, police said. 

A 26-year-old man was shot at least twice just after midnight on Maynard Street in the city's Bay neighborhood, police said.

The shots were fired from a moving vehicle while he was riding his bike. He is expected to survive, but one of the bullets struck his lung.

It was unclear if the shootings were related.

The death is the city's fourth homicide of the year.
