Hampden District Attorney Mark Mastroianni is now even closer to becoming a federal judge.
Late Tuesday afternoon, the U.S. Senate voted to move forward with his nomination.
Tuesday's vote was 56 to 39 to limit debate on the matter, setting up a full confirmation vote, likely for Wednesday.
President Obama nominated Mastroianni to replace outgoing Judge Michael Ponsor.
Mastroianni has served as Hampden's district attorney since 2011.
