Two Springfield men who were speeding in a Lincoln on Interstate 391 southbound early Sunday morning caught the attention of two state troopers that had set up a speed trap.
After initiating a traffic stop about 1:35 a.m. Saturday and conducting an investigation, the troopers found several bundles of heroin and multiple bags of marijuana, according to state police officials.
State police said the drugs and the cash found in the car were believed to be for distribution.
Troopers arrested 24-year-old Edwin M. Andino, the driver and 22-year-old Anthony S. Pizarro, both of Springfield.
Andino was charged with possession of a class A substance with intent to distribute (Heroin), conspiracy to violate drug law and speeding. He was held on $15,000 bond in the Hampshire County Regional Lockup.
Pizarro was charged with possession of a class A substance, and conspiracy to violate drug law. He was held on $5,000 bond
Both men were scheduled to be arraigned in Springfield District Court Monday morning.
