GREENFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Police chased down one man and recovered multiple bundles of heroin after witnessing a drug deal near the Greenfield Bike Path.

Two officers were on walking patrol near Forbes Court in Greenfield Gardens when they spotted what they believed was a drug transaction about 9:30 p.m. Saturday, according to Greenfield Police Officials.

When the officers identified themselves, one suspect, later identified as Kyle Bellows, attempted to flee the scene, police said.

One of the officers chased him down, but not before Bellows allegedly discarded multiple bags of heroin while running. A K9 from the Franklin County Sheriff's Department was called in and recovered two bundles containing 10 bags of heroin. The K9 also recovered eight loose bags of heroin, police said. 

Police charged Bellows, 23, of 246 Conway St., Greenfield, with possession of a Class A substance and conspiracy to violate drug laws, according to an arrest report. He was held on $100 bail.

Stephen Hall, 24, of 88 Forbes Crt., Greenfield, was charged with drug distribution in a school / park, possession of a Class A substance with intent to distribute (heroin), and conspiracy to violate drug laws, police said. He was held on $1,000 bail.
