RALEIGH, N.C. -

A man found guilty of killing a store clerk in 2008 will spend his life in prison.

After two hours of deliberating Friday, a Wake County jury recommended Armond Devega serve life in prison for the 2008 murder of Stephanie Powell Anderson.

Devega was found guilty earlier this week of shooting Anderson while robbing a Wilco-Hess on Trawick Road.

"I can't say I'm disappointed, I'm just hurt that they didn't seek the death penalty," said Anderson's sister, Lachanda Powell. "But I'm relieved. We're at peace with life in prison because he won't get out and hurt anybody else."

Investigators say surveillance video helped them connect Devega to a series of robberies at convenience stores and fast-food restaurants throughout 2008.

In addition to the life sentence, Devega also received up to 72 years on charges related to four other robberies and attempted murder charges.
