About three dozen employers from western Massachusetts were invited to Barnes Air National Guard Base in Westfield on Friday.
The Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve held the event, which has been going on for five years. Companies that employ members of the military reserve or national guard were shown around the base and given firsthand experience of what some of their employees go through when they don military uniforms.
Massachusetts ESGR Vice Chair Earl Bonett said the mission was to educate employers and try to gain support for the men and women who serve.
Guests were given the opportunity to fire small arms as well as tour the base. They also witnessed a rescue exercise performed by the Army Aviation Support Facility also stationed on the base.
Amherst Fire Chief W. Tim Nelson, a self-proclaimed Air Force brat said we should do all we can to support the men and women of the guard and reserve because they have dedicated themselves to defending everyone else.
The event Friday was free for employers.
