As the skies began to clear late Saturday morning, crowds with healthy appetites gathered in Downtown.
The city celebrated its 378th birthday with its annual World's Largest Pancake Breakfast.
The event, which attracts thousands to Main Street each year, is put on by the Spirit of Springfield.
Retiring police Commissioner William Fitchet was this year's honorary chair.
In between pancake bites, Mayor Domenic Sarno told CBS 3 just how important this annual celebration is to the city.
"You cannot put a price tag on the morale boost this gives the city of Springfield," said Sarno. "It's a good feeling. We have people from all over Springfield, families coming down and having a good time. It's just the goodness of Springfield."
CBS 3 Springfield is proud to be a sponsor of the pancake breakfast and we also got our hands dirty.
Members of the CBS 3 staff were busy cooking and serving up the pancakes and bacon to the thousands who came out.
