A 24-year-old nursing assistant was arrested Wednesday morning and charged with allegedly raping a 69-year-old dementia patient at an East Longmeadow nursing facility.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to rape and indecent assault and battery during his arraignment in Palmer Wednesday. He is being held on $500,000 cash bail and was forced to surrender his passport.
Parkpoom Seesangrit, of Great Barrington, was arrested after he was found with the victim in a private room. East Longmeadow police Sgt. Patrick Manley said the woman was naked from the waist down.
"(She) was found in a room with the victim under inappropriate circumstances," Manley said.
There is no evidence Seesangrit sexually assaulted any other victims, but he may have worked at another western Massachusetts agency that provided temporary certified nursing assistants to nursing home facilities, Manley told our media partners at MassLive.
East Longmeadow police received a complaint and responded to the facility just after 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.
According to the assistant defense attorney, Seesangrit's duties at the nursing home include working with only male dementia patients.
The alleged victim was not under the direct care of the suspect. She was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
East Longmeadow police officials would not release the name of the nursing facility, citing an ongoing investigation to determine if there are more victims.
