A National Guardsman and Chicopee native who died while serving during Operation Enduring Freedom was honored by the Massachusetts National Guard on Sunday morning.
The guard dedicated a readiness center in honor of First Sgt. Kevin Dupont.
Dupont died in June of 2009, about three months after suffering wounds from an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan.
Dupont graduated from Chicopee High School in 1976 and was a Marine before joining the National Guard in 1984.
On Sunday, Maj. Gen. Scott Rice called Dupont courageous and "a role model for soldiers."
