RALEIGH, N.C. -

A 200-pound black bear that was found dead on North Carolina State University's campus was likely hit by a vehicle, North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission said.

The initial necropsy performed on the animal showed it was not shot before it was found on a park bench in front of Bostian Hall near the Brickyard Tuesday morning.

The bear was discovered shortly before 8 a.m. by a university employee who contacted campus police.

The N.C. Wildlife removed the bear from campus before 10 a.m. and have taken over the investigation with support by campus police.

The commission said it appears the bear was in good health at the time of its death.

N.C. Wildlife said more information would be released when a final report was completed.
