EMPORIA, Va. - A 10-month-old girl reported missing Saturday morning was found safe in Emporia, Va.and her father has been arrested.

An Amber Alert was issued for 10-month-old Tamiyah Elssy Bryant after police said she was taken by her father around 8:15 a.m. on Saturday.

The alert was canceled Sunday after she was recovered unharmed in Emporia, when a customer at a McDonald's saw the suspect vehicle in the parking lot and notified 911.

The child's father, 26-year-old Rodney Bryant, was arrested without incident by Emporia police and is facing charges of first-degree kidnapping, assault on a female and communicating threats.

Garner Police Lt. Chris Clayton said that Bryant went before a judicial official in Virginia and was asked if he would agree to go back to North Carolina to face the charges. Bryant agreed.

Police said Bryant was taking his girlfriend, Elssy Olivares, to work at an IHOP in Garner on Saturday, but when she attempted to get out of the car, Bryant forcefully held her in the car and eventually made her get out on Interstate 40 in Durham.Police said he continued driving with the child in the car. Durham police said  Bryant has made threats to kill himself and the child.

Durham police are transporting Olivares to Emporia to reunite her with her baby and recover the vehicle.

Bryant is expected to be brought to the Wake County Detention Center within the next five days.

The Department of Correction has until May 19, 2014 to bring him to the state.
