Balise Motor Sales will have to pay a $5,000 fine for a spill of at least 10 gallons of waste oil and gasoline at their Hall of Fame Avenue location in Springfield.
According to the Department of Environmental Protection, a spill last July uncovered several violations of state regulations, including the fact that four drums containing waste oil and gas were not labeled as containing hazardous waste.
One of the drums was also bulging and in poor condition.
Balise has met with DEP officials and will retrain employees on handling hazardous waste.
"Regulations require proper management of hazardous waste in order to prevent spills and protect public safety and the environment," said Michael Gorski, director of MassDEP's Western Regional Office in Springfield. "We are pleased that Balise has completed cleanup of the spill, and is taking steps to re-train its employees on hazardous waste management requirements."
