SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Narcotics officers arrested a suspected heroin dealer Thursday morning who was responsible for selling thousands of bags a week while delivering drugs on foot near Lancashire Road, according to Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney.

The Springfield Police Department set up surveillance after it received information from multiple sources that indicated 29-year-old Christopher Burgos was making heroin deliveries on foot in his neighborhood, Delaney said.

During the undercover surveillance operation detectives watched Burgos leave his home to make deliveries during all hours of the day and night. Police eventually obtained a search warrant for his home at 23 Lancashire Rd., Delaney said.

Narcotics officers were set up and in place to make an arrest about 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

"Just like they were fishing, it didn't take long for them to get a bite," Delaney said.

Detectives watched Burgos head down Lancashire Road towards Lexington Street when they intercepted him. Police found more than $4,400 in cash and 100 bags of heroin stamped "Magoo" on Burgos. He was also carrying two cell phones and the key to his residence, Delaney said.

"The war against Heroin in Springfield continues, one battle at a time," Delaney said.

A thorough search of Burgos' residence turned up multiple suboxone pills, which is a drug used to treat narcotic (opiate) addiction. Police also seized Burgos' personal papers and other drug paraphernalia.

Burgos was charged with possession of heroin with intent to distribute, possession of suboxone with intent to distribute and resisting arrest, according to Delaney.

Burgos will be arraigned Friday in Springfield District Court.
