Firefighters responded to at 918 Granville Rd. early Friday morning and extinguished a house fire, but not before the roof was destroyed and heavy damage was caused throughout the house.

The alleged arsonist and her two dogs escaped the fire unharmed, according to Westfield fire Capt. Chuck Warren.

Authorities immediately began investigating the cause of the fire and determined it started in the attic of the two-story, Cape-style home, Warren said.

"When the roof partially collapsed, we pulled everybody out," Warren said.

Police charged Gloria P. Dandeneau, who resides at 918 Granville Rd., with one count of arson of dwelling for setting the 4 a.m. blaze.
