MONROE, NC (WBTV) -

One person was taken to the hospital after a transfer truck slammed into a Monroe pharmacy Wednesday.

The wreck happened at the Rite Aid Pharmacy on Highway 74 at S Sutherland Avenue just after 10 p.m. Wednesday.

The truck, which had a trailer with what appear to be chicken cages, went straight through the front of the store, knocking down the entire wall surrounding the doors.

The driver of the truck was taken to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. Their name and condition has not been released.

Officials told WBTV that two employees who were in the store were not injured. No customers were in the store at the time of the wreck.

Investigators have not said what may have caused the truck to strike the store.

Damage to the store is estimated at $500,000, and damage to the truck is estimated at $42,000.

There were no chickens in the truck at the time of the crash.
