Interstate 91 northbound was backed up for miles after 35,000 pounds of pipes came crashing through a tractor trailer cab.
State police responded to I-91 near exit 3 about 7:45 a.m. after a MassDOT traffic cam displayed an immobilized truck on the highway, according to State Police Sgt. Alan Joulbert. The load of piping slid forward from the truck's trailer and punctured the driver compartment, Joulbert said.
Police and MassDOT worked to remove the pipes and truck and had the scene cleared about 10:45 a.m.
"Commercial enforcement responded to the scene to investigate the load securement devices, and if they are found to be insufficient the driver will be cited by them," Joulbert said.
The driver, who was uninjured in the accident, and the truck were from Pennsylvania.
