SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Investigators found numerous bullet holes in cars that were parked in the area of an early Sunday morning shooting.

The shooting appeared to be gang and drug-related, according to Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney

Police responded to the intersection of Federal and Worthington streets at about 12:30 a.m. after receiving multiple reports of the shooting. Minutes later, police were notified that a 33-year-old male victim was admitted into Mercy Hospital with a gunshot wound to his midsection, Delaney said.

He was stabilized and transported to Baystate Medical Center for further treatment where he is in good condition, Delaney said.

The victim told police that he had just arrived to the corner where the shooting occurred when shots were fired from a silver Toyota Camry, Delaney said. The victim would not elaborate on more details, though.

The shooting is still under investigation.
